Purpose: GThis dataset is associated with a study investigating the change in carbon and iron export following a major storm event in Newfoundland.
Abstract: Temperature and pH were taken in situ using a Thermo Scientific Orion Star A3229 meter equipped with a pH probe. DOM absorbance was measured on a Cary 300 spectrophotometer (Agilent), from 200 – 800 nm, with 1 nm resolution in a 5 cm quartz cuvette.
DOM fluorescence was measured as excitation emission matrices (EEMs) on a Cary Eclipse Spectrofluorometer (Agilent), with emission from 300 nm-600 nm and excitation from 260 nm 450 nm in 5 nm steps in a 1cm quartz cuvette.
Iron was quantified using the ferrozine method as outlined by Kritzberg et al., 2014( DOI: 10.5194/bg-9-1465-2012); Viollier et al., 2000(DOI: 10.1016/S0883-2927(99)00097-9).
Dissolved organic carbon was quantified as non-purgeable organic carbon on a Shimadzu TOC-L-CPH analyzer. The instrument was equipped with a total nitrogen kit, allowing for the determination of total dissolved nitrogen as well.
Dissolved oxygen was measured in triplicate 60 mL BOD bottles by Winkler titration.
