Title: Global ensemble peatland, bare rock and bare sand extent at 100 m to 1 km spatial resolution based on multisource data
Citation: Hengl, T. (2026). Global ensemble peatland, bare rock and bare sand extent at 100 m to 1 km spatial resolution based on multisource data [Dataset]. Zenodo. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19731872
Study Site: Canada
Purpose: Ensemble estimate of the global distribution of peatlands / extent (peatland.extent_multi_p).
Abstract: This is a simple average from five (5) sources of data:
WRI Global Peatlands extent map at 30-m (250-m effective);
PEATGRIDS at 1-km / Global Peatlands Map 2.0 produced by the Global Peatlands Initiative;
Europe Peatland Map 2025 produced by the Greifswald Mire Centre;
Peatland Extent and Condition for the Contiguous United States based on Lilleskov et al. (2025);
Canada national peatland map based on Webster et al. (2018);
Wetlands extent based on the ESA CCA time-series of land cover maps;
The average between the three sources is an extent map with value 0–100%. The refence period is 2000–2020, although probably most of data is based on pre 2010. For more details about the source data please refer to the cited references below.
